Age of Ruin

Black Sands of the Hourglass Enslain Magazine Issue #8
Finding a comfortable home between slower, mood-laden hardcore and modern melodic metal, Age of Ruin’s songs carry a great deal of power and impact. Songs like “Cracks in the Mirror” and “Withered Rose” possess some of the same riffing sensibility I hear in Shadows Fall, and others contain the thoughtful moodiness of Neurosis. In the background, the constancy of a slight layer of distortion adds a great deal of depth, and this drone has a lulling effect, which draws you inside the music. Brilliant production, powerful songs and growls, and words as pensive as the music backing it: “Black Sands of the Hourglass” is highly impressive, and highly recommended. -- Lady Enslain
