Times of Grace (Relapse)
Enslain Magazine Issue #6
Order Issue #6! This review included. Neurosis have a long history and many CDs and successful tours to show for it. When I think of Neurosis, I am reminded of all of the band members battering miniature drumsets on stage, and letting off such aggression and power. This isn't the Neurosis I hear on "Times of Grace." They still have generally the same sound, but more drawn out, and with less of the percussive lunacy. The CD is over 65 minutes long, and each of the songs seems to last forever, with so much repetition. I think it took me four or five listens before I was actually able to grab onto anything from this album. But once I caught on to the songs, I realized that a collection is incomplete without this one. It's less about little catchy songs, and more about background music for the ravaged soul. There is an art to each of these songs, and there is just nothing like it out there. It may take a while to catch, but if you've got the time, it's well worth it. -- Lady Enslain
