Soul of the Martyr (Relapse)
Enslain Magazine Issue #5
Order Issue #5! This review included.
If you have never heard Benumb before, this album will surprise you in many ways. First of all, once you get into a song, it's over! I don't think there is a single song on this album over 2 minutes long, most aren't even 10 seconds! And the difference between when Benumb does it and when S.O.D. does it, is that Benumb is serious about it! The sound presented in these 35 songs range from slow and aggressive, to fast aggressive grindcore. More often the latter. The riffing is fast and original, often very chunky and not overproduced. The vocals are a distorted yell. "Soul of the Martyr," a collection of old and new Benumb songs, is an interesting and enjoyable release. -- Lady Enslain
