Enslain Magazine Issue #6
What happens when you combine forces specializing in death, progressive, and thrash roots? If done well, you will come up with Arch Enemy, whose sound is as tight and persistent as machinery. There is a rather raw production that allows the chugging riffs to transmit the perfect amount of aggression to counteract the progression of the nostalgic, classic metal solos. The vocalist adds in powerful comprehendible yells. The mix of all these influences is done with taste, and creates some really catchy songs, especially "The Immortal," "Dead Inside," and the slow, dreary title track. Arch Enemy's fresh sound should be enough to impress any devoted metal fan.
